The TsuJal Amphibious Seismic Network: A Passive-Source Seismic Experiment in Western Mexico

چکیده

The geodynamic complexity in the western Mexican margin is controlled by multiple interactions between Rivera, Pacific, Cocos, and North American plates, as evidenced a high seismicity rate, most of whose hypocenters are poorly located. To mitigate this uncertainty with aim improving these hypocentral locations, we undertook TsuJal Project, passive seafloor seismic project conducted from April to November 2016. In addition Jalisco Seismic Network, 10 LCHEAPO 2000 Ocean Bottom Seismometers (OBSs) were deployed BO El Puma array Islas Marías Archipelago (Nayarit) offshore contact states Colima Michoacan. We located 445 earthquakes four or more OBSs within array. Most occurred region Cocos first analysis suggests existence three seismogenic zones (West, Center, East) along Rivera Transform fault that can be correlated its morphological expression throughout zones. estimates Moho discontinuity at km depth supports earlier works regarding West zone earthquake distribution. Subcrustal Central Intra-Transform Spreading Basin domain an ultra-low spreading ridge. A swarm during May June 2016 eastern tip Paleo-Rivera northern East Pacific Rise-Pacific Segment, illuminating some unidentified tectonic feature.

Ocean Seismic Network Pilot Experiment

[1] The primary goal of the Ocean Seismic Network Pilot Experiment (OSNPE) was to learn how to make high quality broadband seismic measurements on the ocean bottom in preparation for a permanent ocean seismic network. The experiment also had implications for the development of a capability for temporary (e.g., 1 year duration) seismic experiments on the ocean floor. Equipment for installing, op...

seismic wave velocity in the tehran seismic network region

the velocity data of seismic waves in a region has an important role in locating occurred events. information such as velocity ratio of vp/vs and velocity curves for pg, pn, sg, and sn phases directly affect the locating results. it is well known that the vp/vs ratio can be used to predict lithology, and that s-waves are sensitive to microcracks aligned by the present day stress field. also, th...

Seismic Design and Codes in Mexico

A brief description is given of the origins and evolution of seismic design codes and practices in Mexico. The Mexico City Building Code is more deeply examined since, for many years, it has been a reference document in Mexico for the drafting of most of the Mexican codes, which, by law, are of municipal competence. Problems related to the implementation of building codes in Mexico are discusse...
